My thoughts on SSF4 AE Ryu changes

As Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition is now out, I will talk specifically about this version only and how it affects the characters I use.

First up is Ryu, my main:

- Far version s.MP is now special cancel-able.
To me, this don't come into use very often, you can buff s.MP into SRK or Hadouken when trying to counter poke.

- Near version s.MK's damage increased.
This is something useful, you can hit confirm from a jump in attack and c.LP > s.MK xxx EX fireball xxx Ultra1. But I don't use it very often as this is a 1 frame link.

- Near version s.HK now has more frame advantage. They mentioned it's possible to link s.HK -> SRK.
Not quite sure what thye really mean here? I believe they are talking about close standing HK > SRK?

- Less active frames on c.MK.
This is a major for Most Ryu players, but we have to deal with it... personally I think its still pretty good, but not as good as before.

- F+HP damage decreased
This sucks overall -.- nerf me more :(

- Jump arc changed on his diagonal jump tatsu. They say it's harder to run away with the tatsu, but also says that its cross-up will be more ambiguous when jumping in.
This is the MAJOR change for Ryu users, previously our only way of running away when we are cornered. Ryu players will feel how painful this is when playing against Zangief :( :( :(

- Did something about EX air tatsu whiffing the last few kicks on hit.
This should have been fixed during vinilla time, when comboing into EX tatsu or sometimes even normal tatsu, the last few hits will miss, leaving us vulnerable, thank god they fix it after.. two versions.

So there you go, thats all for Ryu's change in Arcade Edition of SSF4.
My thoughts is now Ryu is not top tier, but definitely above mid tier, he has many hard matches, even more in Arcade Edition than previous. I still need to play the two brothers, Yun and Yang to see how the matchup is like. I still think Ryu can be strong and solid, just depend on player.

Maybe you already knew it, nevermind, i plan to test Jun too, but i will have to wait for the console release of the arcade edition of SSF4 =(.

  2. Sorry about the late reply, didn't see teh comment lol...
I have been playing Ryu in Japan against the Japanese players, he is still solid but require a lot more effort and patients in order to win. Your Footsies and zoning skill must be good or else Ryu is very difficult to play in AE.
